Coimbatore, September 6: The Rotaract Club of Saibaba Colony, in association with Sangamam – the cultural club of KPR Institute of Engineering and Technology (KPRIET) – hosted the 21st edition of SAHAYAM, a cultural extravaganza for special children. The event, which has become a tradition of compassion and creativity in Coimbatore, transformed the KPRIET campus into a vibrant space filled with art, inclusivity, and joy.
This year’s edition saw a remarkable turnout, with more than 320 children from 11 institutions participating. Accompanied by their parents, these children brought with them an energy that filled the campus. From the moment the competitions began, the atmosphere reflected enthusiasm, cheer, and the spirit of togetherness.
A wide range of events was organized to highlight every child’s unique abilities. The competitions included painting, coloring, poetry, singing, dance, and talent showcases designed to give participants a platform where their creativity could shine. Each performance, whether it was a simple sketch or a graceful dance, was received with thunderous applause. The loud cheers and encouragement from parents, teachers, and volunteers reaffirmed the central belief of SAHAYAM – that art and talent know no boundaries.
The cultural contests also highlighted the diversity of abilities on display. Children expressed themselves through colors on canvas, rhythm in music, and movement in dance. For many participants, it was more than just competition – it was an opportunity to step into the spotlight and showcase talents that often remain unseen.
The highlight of the contest was the announcement of winners. Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya emerged as the proud Overall Trophy winner, while Avinashilingam School took the Runners-up title. The joy on the faces of the winners was undeniable, but what stood out more was the shared happiness among all participants. In every smile and every round of applause, the real victory of the day was visible – confidence, courage, and the unshakable spirit of the children.
The event was graced by several senior Rotarians, including District General Secretary Rtn. MPHF Amrith Parikh, Rtn. Ninan Vargis, Rtn. MPHF PP Lakshmanan, and Secretary Rtn. MPHF Suresh Kumar. Their presence and words of encouragement added significance to the occasion, motivating not just the participants but also the young Rotaractors and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the event a success.
The President and Secretary of the Rotaract Club of Saibaba Colony extended their heartfelt gratitude to all Rotarians, sponsors, and well-wishers. They emphasized that SAHAYAM continues to thrive because of the unwavering support of the community. Volunteers from multiple Rotaract clubs and the Interact Club of National Model School played a critical role in ensuring that the event ran smoothly. Their dedication behind the scenes – managing logistics, assisting participants, and cheering them on – reflected the true spirit of service.
Over the last two decades, SAHAYAM has evolved far beyond being a cultural program. It has become a movement rooted in compassion, inclusivity, and the celebration of abilities. What began as a platform to engage and encourage children with special needs has now grown into a beacon of acceptance, inspiring countless lives. Parents, year after year, share how the event helps their children build confidence and feel included in society.
The 21st edition of SAHAYAM once again reaffirmed its mission: to celebrate abilities, nurture talent, and spread happiness. As the day came to a close, the echoes of applause, the joy on children’s faces, and the satisfaction of the volunteers all stood as proof of the event’s enduring impact. The resilience and spirit of these children continue to inspire the community, reminding everyone that true ability lies in courage, creativity, and the joy of expression.
