A section of city transport crew went on a flash strike early this morning, demanding the arrest of two motorcycle borne persons, who reportedly assaulted a driver last evening in Cheranmanagar in the city.

According to police, the bus proceeding to Cheramanagar from Gandhipuram, driven by Selvakumar lightly touched a two-wheeler, at a curve last evening.

Enraged, the motorcyclists – Thirumalainambi and Subramanian – entered into an argument with Selvakumar, resulting in fisticuffs between them. Later, Selvakumar and Thirumalainambi got admitted at the Government Hospital, they said.

Seeking the duo’s arrest, drivers and conductors numbering about 200 in bus depot one and two at Chungam circle, refused to operate vehicles from 4 a.m., demanding to bring to book those who assaulted Selvakumar.

Transport department officials, police personnel and the local AIADMK MLA rushed to the spot and managed to convince the striking staff and assured to arrest the culprits. The crew resumed services from 7.30 a.m.
