Drawing inspiration from the Olympic torch, the Smile Torch will travel across the length and breadth of the country to stress the need for dental hygiene. Smile Torch is an initiative of the Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) that is celebrating its Golden Jubilee Year. Kolkata was the first city to launch the torch.
Smile Torch was received in Coimbatore at Sri Ramakrishna Dental College and Hospital. D. Lakshminarayanasamy, Joint Managing Trustee, SNR Sons Charitable Trust, inaugurated the event.
“Dental hygiene and care must not be taken for granted. We must take good care of our teeth. A majority of us care for our teeth only once we start having trouble. This trend must change,” Lakshminarayanasamy said.
IOS also launched their smile campaign in the city to spread awareness about dental care and hygiene. In order to commemorate the smile campaign, several activities like quiz, painting, were organized in the city.
Smile Torch initiative was launched at the 50th Indian Orthodontic Conference that was held in December last year. It is believed that the Smile Torch will travel to more than 35 cities in 300 days. The Smile Torch will be in Coimbatore for a week.
