From 27th February to 9th March, the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore will come alive with Tamil Thembu – Tamil Mann Thiruvizha, an elaborate celebration of Tamil heritage, arts, and traditions.
The Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore is set to host Tamil Thembu – Tamil Mann Thiruvizha from 27th February to 9th March, bringing alive the richness of Tamil heritage, traditions, and arts in an elaborate celebration.
A press conference regarding the event was held today (20th February 2025) at the Chennai Press Club. Renowned poet and writer, Kalaimamani Marabin Maindan Muthiah, participated and addressed the gathering.
Speaking at the event, he said, “Following Sadhguru’s guidance, the ‘Tamil Thembu – Tamil Mann Thiruvizha’ has been celebrated at the Coimbatore Isha Yoga Center since 2023, honouring the richness of Tamil language, culture, bravery, arts, history, culinary traditions, and the ancient heritage of the Tamil people.”
He further noted that this year’s festival will be even grander, spanning 11 days in front of the Adiyogi. The event will feature over 150 stalls displaying traditional handicrafts, handloom products, native foods, agricultural goods, and sports items. Alongside, 24 exhibition halls will showcase the grandeur of Tamil culture, covering the richness of the Tamil language, the leadership of Tamil kings, the devotion of Tamil saints, the architectural brilliance of ancient Tamil builders, the depth of Siddha medicine, and the temples that continue to inspire awe across the world.
Muthiah highlighted that an exhibition of native cattle and horses will be a key attraction at the festival. For the first time in Tamil Nadu, a grand Native Cattle and Horse Market will be organised in front of the Adiyogi from the 7th to the 9th of March.
He pointed out that performing arts have long flourished in Tamil culture as expressions of everyday life, historical records, and as a means to cultivate physical and mental harmony. However, many of these art forms are at risk of fading away. To revive and promote these traditions, cultural performances will take place every evening throughout the festival, featuring folk arts such as Paraiyattam, Oyilattam, Poikal Kuthirai Attam, Valli Kummi, and many others.
Emphasising Tamil Nadu’s unique craftsmanship, Muthaiah mentioned that many indigenous products hold Geographical Indication (GI) status. As part of the festival, an exhibition and sale of 20 GI-certified products will be held, featuring Tanjore paintings, Villianur Terracotta, Thoda Embroidery, Kallakkurichi Wood Carving, Mahabalipuram Stone Sculptures, Swamimalai Aimpon Sculptures, and more. Additionally, from the 1st to the 9th of March, one-day practical training sessions on these art forms will be conducted for visitors, offering them a rare opportunity to learn directly from skilled artisans.
