Tension prevailed near Pollachi today when a large number of people ransacked a newly opened TASMAC outlet in the area.

The administration had opened the outlet on Friday at Thippampatti, despite opposition from the public, particularly women, who had also submitted petition to the Sub-Collector and police.

Angered over the administration’s decision, a large number of people came there and broke open the shop and threw away cartons containing liquor bottles, police said.

Amid slogan raising, the public started breaking the bottles, as police arrived at the scene and convinced them that action would be taken soon to address their concern.

However, before leaving the place, the public warned the police that the agitation would be intensified if the administration attempted to open the shop again in the area.
