A teacher and headmaster of a Government Higher Secondary School in Pollachi allegedly assaulted a class 11 student physically as he belonged to the Dalit community. The boy’s mother approached the Collectorate today seeking action against the two.

According to S. Palaniammal of Malayandipattanam in Pollachi, her son S. Anand a Class 11 student of the A. Nagur Higher Secondary School, was abused by his art teacher and the headmaster in front of his classmates on October 5. They also assaulted him, saying the school would not allow Dalit students to study.

“My son came home with bruises and told me what happened. When I approached the headmaster, he claimed that the school was meant only for caste Hindu students,” she said in her petition.

Despite a complaint with the Gomangalam police station, no action was taken against the two, she added. “I request the administration to take action against the culprits and allow my son to pursue his education in the same school immediately,” she said.

The petition was submitted to District Collector T.N. Hariharan.
