The Gandhi Museum in Hasthampatti Post Office, Salem, is a reminder of the Mahatma’s stay at the building on February 14, 1934. He was a guest of Sri. V. Natesa Pandaram, who owned the building.

The Department of Posts inaugurated a museum in his memory at the Hasthampatti Post Office on January 1, 1997. The room where Mahatma Gandhi stayed is converted into the Mahatma Gandhi Philately Museum, which echoes his ideals.

According to Manju P. Pillai, Post Master General, postal department, the easy chair, khadi spinning wheel (charka) and some materials used by Mahatma Gandhi find place of pride in the museum. Photographs and quotes of the Mahatma are also displayed in the museum.

Apart from these, a metal statue of Mahatma Gandhi also finds a place in front of the Post Office.
