Udhagamandalam: Much to the disappointment of holidayers, especially tourists, the services of heritage Nilgiris Mountain Rail (NMR) remained cancelled for the fifth day on Thursday, as clearing the tracks of trees that fell during the heavy rain over the last few days has not happened.

The services of the toy train, using rack and pinion system to climb the steep gradient, were cancelled between Mettupalayam and Coonoor from May 7, following landslide and uprooting of trees on the track between Kallar and Adarley stations.

Though restoration works were carried out, there were more cases of tree-fall, forcing the railway authorities to suspend the services. Clearing of the tracks was continuing on a war-footing, railway sources said.
