Two more impostors arrested and detained under Goondas act

Two more persons were arrested in connection with robbing 150 sovereigns of gold ornaments besides Rs 40 lakh in cash from a house in the city, in the guise of Income Tax officials in October last, and detained under Goondas Act.

A gang, posing as IT officials, some in khaki uniform, had entered the house of a cotton trader, Basheer in Singanallur in the city on October five last year.

In the pretext of seizure, they had taken 150 sovereign ornaments and Rs.40 lakh in cas. The five persons had been already arrested in this connection.

All the five, Mohamemd Rizvan, Krishnan, Parameshwaran, Loganathan and Saleem, lodged in the Central Jail were already detained under Goondas Act.

Police further arrested Jaffer Shariff of Abhiramam Village in Ramanathapuram district and Kannan from Madurai and lodged them in the Central Jail here.

The detention orders detaining them under Goondas Act were served on them last night in the jail, police said today.
