Two 16-year-old polytechnic students drowned to death this evening in a check dam near Eachanari, where they had gone to have a bath.

Three students of a private polytechnic had gone for a swim in the dam on the Eachanari-Madukkarai Road this evening. Two of them, first year students Rahul and Greson, both aged 16, were swimming in the areas where the water was deep.

The other student didn’t know how to swim, and was standing on the banks and watching them. When the boys went missing, he informed his friends who called up the police.

Police and men from the fire service and rescue department arrived and retrieved the bodies which were then sent for post mortem.
