Coimbatore: Ukkadam Peoples’ Livelihood Protection Collective has announced a hunger strike on Monday against the government’s new project of constructing a flyover between Ukkadam-Karumbukadai.
To reduce traffic congestion near Ukkadam, former Chief Minister J Jayalalitha in 2013 announced a new flyover to be constructed between Oppanakkara Street and Athupalam. The construction works were now likely to take off. There are more than 1,000 houses to be discarded for the construction.

People have residing in CMC colony for more than 70 years, the agitators said, adding that the Government should provide housing facility near the colony. The whole process should be transparent, said Parthiban, member the collective.
