Coimbatore : Panic gripped Pollachi railway station in the district today when some unidentified objects exploded on the railway track.
The explosion occurred when the Madurai- Coimbatore passenger train passed through the area, some 1 km from the station, police said.

The train was immediately stopped and left after inspection ensuring that there was no damage or risk. Security was tight in and around the station, in view of state-wide rail roko by PMK over failure to constitute Cauvery Management Board. PMK workers staged a demonstration in front of Post Office.
Preliminary inquiry revealed trace of gun powder, mixture of phosphorus and sulphur made into a ball shape and kept on the track, they said. Meanwhile, some 40 PMK workers were arrested when they were proceeding to stage a rail roko at the city railway station. Business and trade was as usual in the district.
