COIMBATORE: P. Ayyakkannu, who has been fighting for farmers’ cause, on Monday expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will constitute Cauvery Management Board at least after the Karnataka Assembly elections.

“It is evident that the Centre is betraying Tamil Nadu due to Karnataka elections,” Ayyakkannu told reporters here. “Despite several protests the Centre has delayed the formation of the board as directed by Supreme Court. We hope that the Prime Minister will take steps to set up the board at least after the polls. If not, the farmers will have no other option, but to go to Delhi and resume their agitation,” he added.

Ayyakkannu, who was here along with a few farmers, to submit the demands of the local farmers to the Collector, said that farmers wanted to implement Anamalai-Nallaru project immediately, since 100 TC of water from these water bodies was going waste to Kerala.

The farmers also wanted to stop laying of high tension cables through the agriculture lands and steps to prevent dumping of medical wastes from Kerala in places in the district.
