An unidentified woman, disguised as a nurse, has reportedly stolen a five sovereign gold chain from a 65-year-old woman after drugging her to sleep near Mettupalayam here on Wednesday.

According to sources, the woman had befriended the victim, P. Nagammal (65) from L.S. Puram, at a temple festival in Karamadai. The suspect, aged around 45 years, had told Nagammal that she was a nurse. Nagammal invited her home and asked her to prescribe some tablets for her chronic back pain. The accused instead gave her some heavy dose of sleeping pills.

Nagammal passed out soon after taking the tablets. Using the opportunity, the woman stole two gold chains worth three and two sovereigns each, and fled the scene.

When Nagammal woke up, she found out that her jewels were gone and immediately filed a complaint with the P.N. Palayam Sub-Division police.
