An important part of skin care that many fail to remember is exfoliation. Especially in summer, it is crucial to unclog pores and remove dirt that settles within the skin, which ordinary cleansing cannot reach deep enough to do. They are plenty of face scrubs and exfoliating gloves available off the rack but making one at home means you can control the quality of your ingredients and save some cash in the bargain. Another bonus is that DIY recipes are gentler for sensitive skin; just make sure you do a test patch before you try it out. This summer, scrub away dirt and dullness with these four exfoliators.
1. Oatmeal Scrub
In a bowl, mix two tablespoons of uncut oatmeal with one tablespoon of cold milk and one teaspoon of honey into a thick paste. Apply it over your face and neck, while gentle rubbing it in small circles. Leave for 30 mins and wash it off with cold water. Milk’s lactic acid is a natural cleanser. When combined with exfoliating oatmeal, it will help reduce dullness drastically.
2. Coffee Scrub
Combine one tablespoon of coffee powder with 1 teaspoon of coconut oil into a deliciously scented paste. Pat it into your skin and rub it gently as you cover the face and neck. Allow it to sit for 20 minutes and then remove with warm water and face wash. Nourishing coconut oil will soften your skin while coffee scrubs away dirt from it.
3. Salt Scrub
Mix two tablespoons of sea salt with one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice and a few drops of olive oil. Combine and rub it into your face and neck in a circular motion with a light hand. Leave it for 20 minutes, then wash off with warm water. While sea salt will scrub any residue from the skin, lemon will help brighten its appearance.
4. Tomato Scrub
Cut open a tomato and place the soft pulp from inside it into a separate container. To this pulp, add two tablespoons of granulated white sugar. Now apply this mixture onto your face and neck, making sure to massage it in while doing so. Leave it for 15 minutes and wash away with cold water. Sugar and tomatoes are rich in AHA’s and antioxidants which will remove dirt, brighten and nourish skin.
