As the horrific Alwar gangrape case took a political turn, Rajasthan Police has arrested two other accused under the IT Act for uploading a clip of the incident.

With the two arrests, police have made a total of three arrests. Those arrested have been identified as Ashok Gujjar, Mukesh Gujjar and Inderaj Gujjar. Two others are still absconding.

According to police, Mukesh Gujjar is responsible for spreading the video of the gangrape on social media.

The state government has directed Rajasthan Police to protect the woman and her family.

14 police teams have been constituted to nab all the accused.

A woman was on April 26 raped by five men in front of her husband in Rajasthan’s Alwar district. The culprits thrashed the couple, took off their clothes and also filmed the act.

They later uploaded the clip on social media after failing to extort money from the victims.

The incident took place when the woman was travelling on a motorbike with her husband and the suspects stopped them on the Thanagazi-Alwar bypass. The couple was dragged to an isolated area, where the woman was raped. Her husband was threatened with dire consequences.

An FIR was lodged on May 2 under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and SC/ST Act against five accused.

While the Congress government led by Ashok Gehlot has promised stern action, Opposition BJP has alleged that the state government is suppressing the matter to stop the incident from hampering the party’s prospects in the Lok Sabha elections.

Gehlot, on the other hand, said, “The state government is committed for women safety. Nearly a dozen police teams have been formed to arrest the accused and one arrest has been made. The victim and her family are given protection.”
