Postal stamp to popularise book festival released

The Postal Department has come out with a special stamp to create awareness among the public and popularise the book festival being at the palace in Thanjavur.

The District Collector, N. Subbaiyan, today released the special stamp to mark the occasion. Senior superintendent of postal department Panchapakesan received it. The stamp is priced at Rs. 5.

Among others, Saraswati Mahal Library’s administrative officer Poongothai, tourist officer Rajasekhar and librarian S. Sudarsan attended the function.

The book festival, jointly organised by the district administration and Book Publishers and Sellers Association of South India (BAPASI), will conclude on July 25. It has more than 80 stalls where books ranging from Rs 5 to 5000 are available for sale.

There has been an overwhelming response from the public to the book festival that began on July 15. In the last eight days alone 75,000 books worth Rs.1 crore have been sold.

More than one lakh people, mostly students, visited the festival.
