About 1.5 tonnes of plastic waste and 400 bags of other wastes were cleared during the Swachh Bharat Mission organised by the Coimbatore Chapter of Young Indians (Yi), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Coimbatore Zone.

Yi joined hands with corporate houses, forest department, educational institutions and organized this cleanliness drive in which common people too took part. The drive was carried out in 14km stretch between Managarai and Anaikati.

“We covered four villages. Our volunteers interacted with the villagers and educated them how to dispose off waste safely instead of burning it. We also collected liquor bottles and glasses from some places,” Manoj Krishnakumar, Swachh Bharat Chair of Yi, Coimbatore said. The waste was later transported to the Vellore dump yard by the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) staff.

The entire operation was videographed by Yi members and it would be made into a documentary . All this is done to make the public aware of the difficulty that is involved in cleaning public space. In the past Yi had organised such drives in Gandhipuram, Pollachi, Maruthamalai and Anaikatti.
