As part of World Liver Day on July 30, a city hospital, along with a few organisations, is organising a `2020 VisionMarathon’, aimed at making Coimbatore among other things the cleanest city in the country by 2020.
The vision to make the city cleanest among the top three in India from the present 10 hopes to see the City to be among the top three least polluted ones from the current 11th position of 11 and to be the first safest city for women and children from the present third, Dr Madhura Prasad Suman from VGM Hospital told mediapersons here today.
Supporting organisations like ASK, Onlystaples, Robin Charitable Trust, along with Rotary Club of Coimbatore, will create a team of 10,000 volunteers each, drawn from various colleges to work hard to achieve the goal, she said.
Rajesh Keerthi, Director of Onlystaples, an online-grocery seller, said about 5,000 persons, including from CRPF and some professionals from Kerala and Bengaluru were expected to participate in the marathon, which will be in three category of 3 km, 5 km and 10 km.
District collector T N Hariharan, City Police Commissioner A Amalraj, Corporation Commissioner K Vijayakarthikeyan and former scientific adviser to APJ Abdul Kalam V Ponraj will be present on the occasion, he added. Arjuna Awardee athlete Charles Borromeo will be the chief guest.
