Rare cancer surgery performed at GEM hospital

For the first time in India, lap whipple surgery was successfully performed to save the life of a patient suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer. The patient, 73-year-old Ramkishan Agarwal is from Uttar Pradesh.

The surgery was performed at Gem Hospital. Addressing the media, the hospital Chairman, Dr. C. Palanivelu said that the patient had been suffering form prolonged bout of jaundice. During treatment, he was diagnosed to be suffering from pancreatic cancer.

The seven-hour long laparoscopic surgery, performed for the first time in India, is a very complicated procedure. The patient was present during the meet and was recovering very well. Only one other hospital has succeesfully performed the surgery – the Kendrick Mayo Clinic in the US.
