Chennai: AIADMK’s all-important general council meeting i on Tuesday is expected to nullify decisions taken by a section of rebels claiming that they go against party rules.

The meeting is expected pass a resolution stating that all decisions taken by the rebel group contravenes the party byelaws and need to be declared null and void.

Through this, the appointment of jailed party general secretary VK Sasikala will be declared void, following which the decisions taken by her subsequently would also be void, party sources said.

There is section that believes that Sasikala’s supporters along with her nephew and party deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran could attend the meeting and the anti-Sasikala resolution could offend her group.

But another section believes that things need to be set right and there need not be any watering down of the resolution and the rebel faction is in minority since the around 1,400-member council has more than 80 per cent supporting the official faction.

Invitations had been sent to members of both the factions.

The ruling group received a big boost when the Madras High Court on Monday dismissed a petition against the holding of the council meeting. Not only did the court dismiss the petition of Dinakaran loyalist P Vetrivel, but also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh for filing a vexatious case.

Vetrivel’s claim was that only the party general secretary was authorised to convene the meeting. Incidentally, the meeting is being held in the backdrop of the Opposition demanding that the Chief Minister prove his majority through a floor test.

The meeting decision was taken on August 28 when it was also decided to bring back both party mouthpiece Namadhu MGR and Jaya TV.
