Coimbatore : Expressing disappointment over the curtailment of Cauvery water share as per the Supreme Court verdict, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edapadi K Palanisamy said there were certain welcome points.

The Cauvery Water Tribunal had allocated 192 tmc water to Tamil Nadu and a reduction of 14.75 tmc to bring it share down to 177.25 tmc by the Supreme Court verdict was disappointing, Palanisamy told repoters at the city airport. Being a Supreme Court verdict, he had restraints in commenting further.

The court had confirmed the acreage of Tamil Nadu coming under irrigation, Palanisamy said the announcement that no State could claim ownership of the river was a welcome step.

About future course of action, he said that it would be decided after discussing with law experts. The verdict was the result of the case filed by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the Supreme Court, he said.

Palanisamy also expressed confidence that the Centre would constitute the Cauvery Management Board in six weeks as suggested by the court, a long-pending demand by the State.
