Coimbatore: The slogans `Padega India, Badhega India’ and `Beti bachao’ are being widely promoted across the county. In Coimbatore, Aram Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, is out on a mission to make people aware of some of the common issues they face in daily life.

Run by social activist Latha Sundaram, the institution believes in the uplift of children and women. “We believe in imparting knowledge and awareness among children, enabling them become responsible citizens. Happy childhood with all-round development to make them successful not only in academics but in real life too is the mission,” said Latha.

Aram has been involved in many social projects like the bio-degradeable napkin one. It was started to make children feel hygienic at home and school. Under this project, napkins completely free from plastic have been given to underpriviledged girls mostly belonging from poor families who otherwise use cloth which is very unhygienic.

Latha says, “These are not events conducted in a day but projects which continue for years as it is directly associated with the everyday life of children and involves subjective factors in the educational system.”

The process might be slow but surely there was a progress was what she said when asked about how long it took for the project to be implemented successfully.

Another important launch was the `Aero Astro Club’ where a child from a corporation school in a lab-monitored by experts can do a proto type of the process of converting human feces from trains into water for agricultural use.

There is also going to be a sky watch programme for the first time in corporation schools next week.

Aram Foundation has received many recognitions like the historic record where about 1,55,000 girls being taught self-defence. Latha herself was awared the coveted `Nari Shakti Puraskar’ in 2015 for her contribution towards access to justice and protection of women and their rights.

The organisation has 16 ongoing projects done on a charity basis. It dreams to make them available to every child in every school in every State. Functions were held recently at the Ranganathapuram school. The founder also mentioned about the recognition received from the Ministry of Trust Accomplishments.
