Parents of the students of a private school resorted to squatting on the road after the City Corporation closed the school down and seized the property yesterday.

The school’s property lease had expired last year and the Corporation took possession of the 30 cents of land on which the school building stood. Following a dispute, the school management had filed a suit in the court. The court had instructed the Secretary to issue relevant orders. The Secretary ordered the Corporation to take possession of the land, which was carried out yesterday.

Shocked parents turned up early in the morning today. Heated arguments ensued between the parents and the school management. It was only then that the parents squatted on the roads demanding that the school be reopened. The Secretary and the police arrived to pacify the parents.

The school management requested the Secretary that they be permitted to complete the academic year. The Secretary asked the management to give their request in writing so that appropriate action could be taken.
