Salem division ticket checks on trains yield record Rs 8.85 cr in a year

Coimbatore : The commercial branch of Salem Railway Division carried intensive ticket checkings during 2017-18 and realised a record Rs.8.85 crore, an increase of 4 per cent over the target fixed.

Officials conducted 38,205 checks and booked 2,11,712 cases between April 2017 and March 2018, a division statement said today.

The amount collected from 46,662 ticketless travel cases Rs 1,91,33,011 Travelling with improper ticket was 1,57,852 and penalty slapped was Rs 6,74,53,829 Unbooked luggage cases were 7,198 and penalty earned was Rs 29,65,255.

Appreciating the excellent performance Divisional Manager U Subba Rao handed over an appreciation certificate and a cash award of Rs 1,000 to each of the five top performing ticket checking inspectors.

Though ticketing is the primary focus for railways, by way of conducting regular checks, the challenge of ticketless travelling could be brought down and better revenue earned, he added.
