Kaala marks the second collaboration of director Pa Ranjith and Rajinikanth, after Kabali. The socio-political flick produced by Dhanush’s Wunderbar Films talks about the importance of land rights and equality.

The film, which also stars Nana Patekar and Huma Qureshi, is having a dream run at the Chennai box office. According to trade reports, Kaala has set a new opening day record, in terms of box office collection.

The film has collected a whopping Rs 1.76 crore in Chennai beating Vijay’s Mersal’s earlier record of Rs 1.52 crore. Kaala now stands at the top of the box office collection figures in Chennai. It might take another Superstar film to beat this remarkable feat.

Before Mersal, Ajith’s Vivegam had registered a record box office collection on its opening day by garnering Rs 1.21 crore.

Trade analyst Girish Johar, speaking to Financial Express revealed that the first-day box office collection of Kaala will be close to Rs 25-30 crore.

Since Kaala did not have a full-fledged release in Karnataka yesterday, there are high chances that it might affect the cumulative box office collection.
