TEA seeks release pending levy rebate claims

Coimbatore : Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) on Thursday appealed to Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani to release the pending rebate on state levies (ROSL) to the garment sector.
The claims had not been cleared to the garment sector for the past three months, given mainly to compensate the embedded taxes like those on petro products and electricity and not included in GST, association president Raja M Shanugham said in a statement here.
The garment export sector after passing through a declining trend for the past one year recorded a reverse only in October last, further to implementation of GST from last October, he said
The pending ROSL claims for Tirupur cluster would work to Rs 105 crore and would be helpful as the units were operating under wafer thin margin.
The units were taking various measures to cut down their costs to stay competitive, he added.
