Six goats and more than 10 hens were reportedly killed by stray dogs here on Wednesday.

According to M. Mohammed Arif, one of the owners of the goat farm at Super garden in Ponvizha Nagar, near Ukkadam the incident occurred the previous night.

“We were shocked to see the dead goats,” he said and added that this was not the first time the dogs have been attacking goats or hens. “They use to kill one goat at a time when there is no one around. But this is a first time so many goats have died. We have invested around Rs. 60,000 on these goats,” Arif said.

Stray Dog menace has always been an issue in the area due to the presence of a dog sterilisation centre here.

“People are subjected to dog bites. More than 200 dogs roam here,” added another resident.

When contacted, A. Sadik Ali, Councilor of the ward 86 said that the dog sterilisation centre had been the main reason for problem. “I have petitioned the district administration many times and we are planning to hold a protest next time,” he told the Covai Post.

According to a data from the Coimbatore Corporation, more than 14,000 unsterilised dogs are on the streets in the city as on November 2015.
