Chennai: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will be launching its INSAT-3DR weather satellite on September 8 from the Sriharikota Space Centre.

On its tenth flight, the GSLV-F05, India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV), will launch the INSAT-3DR, an advanced weather satellite, into a Geostationary Transfer Orbit (GTO). The satellite weighs about 2210 kilos. The GSLV is capable of injecting satellites weighing 2.0 to 2.5 tons into the orbit.

According to a senior ISRO official, the GSLV-F05/INSAT-3DR Mission “is scheduled to be launched on September 08, 2016, at 1610 hours, Indian Standard Time, from SDSC, SHAR, Sriharikota.”

Once in its GTO, INSAT-3DR will be stationed at 74-degree East longitude, and provide weather-related data pertaining to India.
