The violent fallout of the murder of Hindu Munnani leader Sasikumar has prompted advocates in Coimbatore to petition the City Commissioner of Police A Amalraj to nab the culprits soon and help restore peace in the city.

Petitioning the police chief today, the advocates claimed that the attacks against minorities was a deliberate attempt to gain political mileage.

“The events could have been averted if leaders of the outfits had been sensitive and directed their wards to maintain peace,” the petition read.

They questioned the police motive behind giving permission, under the circumstances, for the more than 18 km march, which resulted in various shops and religious places getting targeted by the protesters. “The issue can only be brought down if the accused are nabbed immediately and protesters arrested,” the advocates said.

Police have arrested around 108 people in Coimbatore in connection with the case.
