Following a Supreme Court order, the Tamil Nadu Government on Monday said authorities would demolish the second block of the 11-storey under construction building at Moulivakkam on November 2.

In 2014, an under construction building collapsed in which 61 people, mostly labourers from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal, died.

Last May, the apex court upheld the Kancheepuram district authorities’ ruling to raze down the second structure of the building on the site at Moulivakkam in the outskirts of Chennai.

Accordingly, the concerned officials have planned to evacuate people within 100 metres from the site before beginning the demolition. Residents would be shifted to nearby marriage hall till the work is completed.

The authorities have planned to bring down the structure by using a high-tech method so that the debris falls inside the campus only.
