Old ones disbanded, 30 new flying squads formed

Thirty flying squads, comprising Central Government employees and CRPF personnel, have been formed to ensure free and fair elections to Thanjavur constituency which is going to polls on November 19, District Collector A. Annadurai said.

Inaugurating the training class for the Central Government employees and the CRPF personnel at the collectorate today, he said 12 flying squads (consisting of State Government employees) that were functioning in Thanjavur constituency have been disbanded on the orders of the Election Commission.

“The new squads and static surveillance teams will function round the clock in three shifts. They will also conduct vehicle checks,” the Collector said.

“Dr. O.P. Meena, special election observer appointed by the Election Commission, is camping in Thanjavur and is monitoring the work. In case of any violation of model code of conduct by political parties, public can inform and lodge a complaint either in person or by contacting either of the two toll free numbers 1800 425 8036 and 1077,” Annadurai added.
