Police are yet to make a breakthrough in the robbery of three kg of gold and four kg of silver. It was made by waylaying a van and attacking the staff of a jewellery shop yesterday.

Five special teams have been formed to nab the culprits.Four unidentified persons wearing helmets, on two motorcycles,
had waylaid the van, and robbed 3.3 kgs of gold bars and 4.8 kgs of silver bars at knife point at Bharathi Colony at Peelamedu.

They also reportedly used a gun to prevent those in the van from screaming. There were no clues available so far from the CCTV footage installed in nearby buildings and also traffic signal, police said.

As information about the transportation of huge quantity of valuables, worth over Rs. 1 crore, was known only to the management and some staff members, police are investigating, said. Inquiry was also on to find out if management had dismissed any staff recently.

Based on the modus operandi, police suspect a ‘professional hand’behind the incident.
