Wild elephant which killed seven persons captured

A lone tusker which killed seven persons in villages bordering Tamil Nadu and Kerala, was today captured in Agali in Kerala.
The elephant has turned into a nightmare for the tribal villages of Anaikatti in Tamil Nadu and Sholayur and Agali in Kerala for the last five years, during which it has killed seven villagers on both the sides of the border.
After disussions between the forest department officials of both the States, it was decided to catch the elephant and two kumkis (tamed elephants) Sujay and Vijay were requisitioned from Mudumalai Tiger Reserve camp in Nilgiris district in Tamil Nadu, forest department sources said.
As the wild tusker arrived early today near a river, the officials shot a tranquiliser, which was bang on target.
After some time, the elephant was loaded in a waiting lorry with the help of kumkis, they said.
The officials will decide whether the elephant should be released to the thick jungles or will be trained as kumki, the source said.
