About 25 members of the Thanthai Periyar Dravida Kazhakam (TPDK) were arrested in Coimbatore for attempting to protest against the sale of Ganga water at post offices.
Led by the TPDK general secretary, K. Ramakrishnan, the protesters raised slogans against the BJP government at the centre, for selling Ganga water.
Ramakrishnan accused the BJP of trying to saffronize government institutions by selling Ganga water, which is considered holy by a particular religion. “Will the Government come forward to sell holy things belonging to other religions like Christianity and Islam? he asked.
He also pointed out that there was no expiry date on the containers.
Police said that the workers were arrested when they were proceeding for the demonstration.
