It will be a tough fight for the ruling AIADMK in Salem, as the Opposition DMK, which is considered to be strong here, is contesting from eight constituencies for the May 16 elections.
Of the 11 constituencies in Salem district , the DMK has decided to contest in eight seats, while the remaining seats will be contested by its smaller allies.
The AIADMK will also meet Congress in two constituencies and will fight one against the Makkal DMDK, a party formed by Vijayakanth’s DMDK rebel group recently.
Hence, the AIADMK will face a direct contest in Salem south, Salem west, Salem north, Edappadi, Veerapandi, Omalur and two reserved constituencies such as Gangavalli and Yercaud.
