Recently, an interesting and fun afternoon, celebrating fitness and health with almonds, was organized in Coimbatore. Nutritionist Sheela Krishnaswamy and fitness expert G. Muthu educated the audience about the health benefits of eating almonds.

The experts spoke about the anti-oxidant qualities of almonds and pointed out that these nuts are rich in vitamin E. The participants were also put through a 15-minute workout session. Muthu also demonstrated a few workout combinations, and suggested that the audience make almonds a part of their routine to maintain a healthy and fit life.

Dieticians recommend almonds because they are excellent source of protein and trace elements. Almonds are dry and this makes it possible to preserve them for long. Above all, almonds taste good when eaten just the way they are. They also taste great when paired with fresh, seasonal fruits, and when consumed with short-eats, savouries, and milk shakes.

“Fitness and a healthy diet go hand in hand. In addition to working out every day, it is essential to eat right. Your daily intake must include food items that are rich in essential nutrients. Incorporating small changes in your life like eating a handful of almonds every day and working out regularly will help you maintain a healthy life. In fact, almonds are a source of many important nutrients such as vitamin E, dietary fibre, protein, riboflavin etc. and can be the perfect snack option. Whether at home, work, or workout, a handful (30 grams/23 almonds) of these nuts are a convenient snack that can be eaten anywhere, any time of the day, and through the year,” Muthu, the fitness expert, said.

Seconding her was Sheela Krishnaswamy, who added, “In addition to this, a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that consuming 43 grams of dry-roasted, lightly-salted almonds every day reduced hunger and improved dietary vitamin E and Mono Unsaturated (“good”) fat intake without increasing the body weight. Hence, helping you get important nutrients and manage hunger,” Sheela said.
