BJP candidates, including the party’s star nominee Vanathi Srinivasan, who started the poll campaign ahead of many political parties, have gone into the fray with constituency-wise manifesto to woo voters. And, almost all of them are cashing in on the Centre’s proposal to make Coimbatore a smart city.
“I am going to present a separate manifesto for my constituency. We are collecting issues faced by people,” Vanathi, who is also the BJP State Vice President, said.
Vanathi said that she was creating awareness among the electorates, especially the first time voters that all civic issues in Coimbatore would be solved under the ‘Smart City’ programme initiated by the Modi-led BJP government at the Centre.
“Our Prime Minister is also visiting Coimbatore very soon. This will give a big morale boost to our party,” Vanathi said.
With more than 34 lakh population, there are more than 30,000 tiny small, medium and large industries in this whole district, which comprises 10 constituencies. Also known for its reputation in entrepreneurship venture, Coimbatore is the third largest city in Tamil Nadu.
Though the BJP is looking strong in several constituencies in Coimbatore, the AIADMK has fielded Deputy Speaker Pollachi Jayaraman in Pollachi, where the ruling party is strong.
Likewise, the AIADMK, which has fielded Law Minister S.P. Velumani in Thondamuthur constituency in Coimbatore district, is expected to give a tough fight to BJP.
