Opposing opening of a TASMAC liquor outlet, the residents of Ashoknagar in Anamalai, today hoisted black flags atop their houses.

Coming to know about the outlet coming up in the area, which has educational
institutions and places of worship, the residents had already submitted a memorandum
to the Sub-Collector, Pollachi, some time ago.

However, the authorities had turned a deaf ear, and now had opened the outlet. In protest nearly 500 residents of the area hoisted black flags atop their houses, police said.

Even as 200 persons, including students picketed the proposed location this morning, some senior residents were planning to meet the District Collector here.
