A 36-old bus driver, who was declared brain dead, gave new lease of seven persons today.
Natarajan of Kumalankuttai village in Erode, suddenly fell unconscious on June 20. He was rushed to the hospital in Erode where he was diagnosed with grade 4 sabarachnoid hemorrhage due to high blood pressure. He was immediately shifted to Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital the same day.
Despite undergoing surgical and medical management, he could not respond, a press release from the KMCH said.
Doctors declared him brain dead yesterday evening. His family, amidst grief, came forward to donate his organs. A team of doctors from Coimbatore Medical College Hospital and KMCH harvested Natarajan’s liver, kidneys, eyes and skin this morning, the release added.
The liver and kidneys were transplanted to patients at KMCH and heart was sent to a private hospital in Chennai.
