A cancer victim has donated her share of the property, which she inherited from her father, for the welfare of cancer patients with the help of the the State government.

Jamruth, who succumbed to the disease in the year 2004, had drafted a will the same year on August 26 with the help of an advocate that an amount of Rs. one lakh which she would inherit from her father, should be used for the welfare of those suffering from cancer and eye ailments. She died in September.

However, her kin found it difficult to fulfill her last wish as he money was still in the form of a property. “Once we got the money, we immediately took action. It could not be done then due to various technical and legal issues,” her sister M. Mahmutha said.

In her will, Jamruth had mentioned that her decision not to distribute her share to her family members was because of her father, whom she blamed, did not take care of her properly when she was suffering.

Mahmutha today called on the District Collector, T.N. Hariharan, and presented the amount to him. It was later transferred to the government treasury to be utilised for the welfare of cancer patients through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
