Madukkarai Maharaj that was captured and trans located to the Anamalai Tiger Reserve Camp “is still aggressive”.
According to forest department sources, the elephant – kept in a specially made wooden kraal and surrounded by five kumkis (trained elephants) – showed no signs of mellowing down.
The ‘maharaj’, which was tranquilized in the Madukkarai forest range in the city, was straight taken to the Varakaliyur camp, some 60 kms from here. “Nearly 20 forest department staff are monitoring the pachyderm. It is on a normal diet like other elephants,” sources said.
The department would begin its exercise to domesticate the animal to ‘turn it into a kumki’ in another 10 days.
