Chain-snatching, burglary in city outskirts

A case of chain-snatching was reported in Ramanathapuram and in Podanur thieves took away a gold chain from a house on Wednesday.

Miscreants snatched a 9.5-sovereign chain from Sundarammal, 72, at Kongunagar in Ramanathapuram when she went out for an evening walk, police said.

In the other incident, Rathinam, 70, of Nanjundapuram in Podanur, who had gone to a hospital found her house broken open and 3.5 sovereigns of gold jewellery stolen. Police tracked down the culprits and recovered the stolen material.

The woman in her complaint told police that she suspected two persons, Promoth and Ramkumar. The two admitted committing the crime, police said.
