V C Arukutty, MLA (AIADMK Puratchi Thalaivi) representing Kavundampalayam in the city, today appealed before Athur Police in Salem district, in connection with the death of Kanagaraj, the former driver of late chief minister, Jayalalithaa, who died in an accident on April 28.

Kanagaraj was the prime suspect in the break-in and murder of a security guard, Om Bahadur in Kodanadu Bungalow owned by Jayalalithaa on April 24 and died in an accident in mysterious circumstances in Salem on April 28.

Tracing that Arukutty was in regular contact with Kanagaraj over phone, police have summoned him for inquiry for tomorrow, but Arukkuty preferred to appear today, police said.

Earlier, Arukutty told reporters here that he was asked to appear before police since he was in the call list of Kanagaraj, who introduced himself as former driver in Poes Gardens (Jayalalithaa’s Chennai house), while he was working in a company owned by my friend in Chennai.

“I used to take him as acting driver, when ever I am in Chennai,” he said.

However, I stopped talking to him during the last two months, since he had tipped some AIADMK leaders that I was supporting O Paneerselvam, Arukutty said.

It has to be noted that the summoning of an MLA comes a day after Dhanapal, the elder brother of Kanagaraj alleged political interference and foul play in the entire case, including his brother’s death.
