Home and Kitchen segment of e-commerce giant Amazon.in has witnessed a growth of nearly 165 per cent over last year and is expected to either comfortably sustain or cross the figure during this year, a top official said today. He also added that Coimbatore was the most active city in the segment, amounting to 10 per cent of the demand from Tamil Nadu.

Amazon.in’s home category saw nearly 200 per cent growth, while the kitchen segment grew at 135 per cent during the review period, Sumit Sahay, Director, Category Management of Amazon Sellers Services Pvt Ltd, told reporters in Coimbatore.

With 45,000 sellers on the platform, the company has witnessed a strong growth in the category, in the tier II and tier III cities, with nearly 60 per cent of the orders coming from outside the top eight cities in the country, he said. In Tamil Nadu, the state saw a growth 160 per cent, with kitchen storage, containers, and tools like screwdrivers being the most popular sub-category, he said.

In tune with the national trend, home was the fastest growing sub-category, with 200 per cent growth in the last one year, he said, adding that Coimbatore was the most active city under the home and kitchen category with the city contributing to nearly 10 per cent of the demand from the state.

To a question on supply base, Sahay said that the company currently has 22 warehouses across the country, including one in Chennai. Five more will be added this year, with three in Tamil Nadu.
