In a horrifying accident, two teenaged sisters were killed and their father, a sub inspector of police, sustained serious injuries, when the two-wheeler they were travelling on, collided against a concrete mixer near Madukkarai, on the outskirts of Coimbatore.
Jayaprakash, a sub inspector attached to the Rural Crime Branch, was taking his two daughters to their colleges in the city on a two-wheeler, from their residence in K.G. Chavadi.
When the vehicle reached Madukkarai, a concrete mixer suddenly took a right turn, without signalling. The two-wheeler rammed on to it and the two sisters, aged 18 and 17 years, were thrown under the wheel. The sisters died on the spot.
Jayaprakash was thrown off his vehicle and was seriously injured. He was rushed to a private hospital.
Ironically, eyewitnesses blamed Jayaprakash for taking two grown-up daughters on a scooterette, despite being aware, as a police official, that riding triples on a two-wheeler was not permitted.
