Coimbatore Municipal Corporation Commissioner (CMCC) K Vijayakarthikeyan distributed uniforms and protective kits to 2,740 permanent sanitary workers at a function here today.
While the men were given a clothing kit of two pairs of trousers and shirts, a head scarf and a pair of sandals each, the women workers received two pairs of sarees with blouse material, a head scarf and a pair of sandals. They were also given Rs. 450 and Rs. 100 respectively towards tailoring costs. The uniforms were distributed at a total cost of Rs. 22.81 lakhs, a press release issued by the corporation here said.
Protective gear such as masks, boots, caps, and luminescent jackets and rain coats were distributed at a cost of Rs. 37 lakhs to sanitary workers and a cost of Rs. 30 lakhs to sanitary inspectors and supervisors.
Forty-three newly procured fogging machines were distributed to various wards in CMC as a measure towards mosquito control.
Deputy Commissioner P Gandhimathi, Town Welfare Officer Santos Kumar and assistant commissioners also took part in the function.
