In a bid to eradicate usage of plastic bags, Coimbatore Corporation has planned to identify 100 shops in the first phase.
In a meeting held at the Commissioner Office on Tuesday, Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan also said that series of drives have been planned to create awareness among public to stop using plastic bags.
“People should resort to using cloth bags instead as they cause less pollution,” he said.
The corporation is also planning to certify the hundred shops identified in the first phase and also urge other shops to follow the lead.
Various activists and officials from the health department also participated in the meeting.
