CPI (ML) is fielding candidates in 15 constituencies for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, according to Party General Secretary Deepankar Bhattacharya.

The main plan of the Party during the elections would be to defeat major parties like AIADMK, DMK, BJP and Congress. “It is an appeal to the people not to entertain parties like PMK and DMDK,” Bhattacharya told reporters here on Tuesday.

Stating that the Party had decided to field two candidates in Kavundampalayam and Mettupalayam constituencies in Coimbatore district, he said CPI (ML) decided not to join the People Welfare Front, as its convenor Vaiko had joined hands with BJP in the last Lok Sabha elections.

However, the Party was fighting the elections in eight constituencies in Assam and for 36 seats in West Bengal as part of the Left Party alliance, he said.

Bhattacharya, here to attend the Party’s two-day State Committee meeting, condemned the brutal killing of Dalit youth Shankar in Udumalpet two days ago and also criticised major political parties for not condemning the incident.

He also sought to bring in a separate law against honour killings and also to protect those from getting married from two different castes. He also asked all progressive parties and organisations to wake up and raise their voice against such heinous crimes against Dalits.

The Party is organising a campaign ‘Save Democracy, Save India’, from March 23, the day Bhagat Singh was hanged to death to April 14, the 125th birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar, Deepankar said.
