The CPI on Saturday decided to lay siege to the office of the city Corporation, demanding withdrawal of the proposed abnormal tax on UGD scheme, on September 11.

A decision to this effect was taken at the party’s district committee meeting, held here under the leadership of former councillor, R. Kalyanasundaram, in which senior party members
and office bearers participated.

The scheme is being implemented at an outlay of Rs.370 crore, while the Corporation
had proposed to levy Rs.150 crore as tax and Rs.450 crore as deposit amount, which

will be a heavy burden on common man.

The party workers will picket and lay siege to the Corporation office on that day demanding to withdraw the proposed tax structure.
